INTRODUCTION

The Army Institute of Law (AIL) is a prestigious law school established by the Indian Army in 1999. The Institute offers a five-year integrated BA.LLB program and a one-year LL.M program, both affiliated to the Punjabi University, Patiala and approved by the Bar Council of India. The Institute aims to impart high-quality legal education and professional training to its students and enable them to pursue a career in various fields such as the Bar, Judicial Services, Civil Services, Armed Forces, Corporate Houses and more. The Institute also strives to instil in its students a sense of dignity, ethical and moral values and a visible sense of National pride.

The Institute has a state-of-the-art campus in Mohali, which was inaugurated by the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, in 2003. The Institute has been accredited grade ‘B’ by the NAAC and has grown as a Centre of Excellence in the field of legal education. With ‘Aspire & Achieve’ as its motto, the Institute has produced many distinguished alumni who have made their mark in various domains of law and society.

INFRASTRUCTURE AND CAMPUS FACILITIES

The Institute has a cool and modern campus with the following facilities:

Academic Infrastructure: The campus has comfortable classrooms, a computer lab with special computers, fast wifi, a library with books, e-books and online resources, a mobile app for digital content, a video conferencing facility, a seminar hall, a conference hall, a moot courtroom, a multi-purpose hall, a dining hall with a modern kitchen, and well-maintained exam halls.

Campus Facilities: The campus has indoor and outdoor sports facilities, including two basketball courts, a volleyball court, and badminton and table tennis facilities. It also has a new sports complex, a beautiful Amphitheatre, a medical room, an Axis Bank ATM, an SBI Bank, a cool and lively cafeteria with music and LED screens, a gym with modern machines and equipment, and open gyms in hostels.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA  FOR ARMY INSTITUTE OF LAW (AIL)

To apply for Law Courses, one needs to pass the 10+2 exam from the Punjab School Education Board or any other exam that Punjabi University, Patiala accepts. One needs to get at least 45% marks as per Punjabi University Letter No.216468/Meeting-4 dated 7 May 2004. One cannot apply if one did 10+2 from an open university without any basic qualifications.

(a) One can take the Entrance Test – 2023 if one is appearing for the qualifying exam. But one will lose one’s chance if one does not pass the final exams, in 2023 with the required marks.

(b) If one passed a qualifying exam from a Board/University that Punjabi University, Patiala does not recognize, one needs to show an eligibility certificate from Punjabi University, Patiala at the interview. If not, one will not be considered.

(c) If one’s results are delayed, one should ask the Board of Exam to send a confidential result to the Principal, Army Institute of Law, Mohali, Punjab. One must make sure it arrives on time. If not, one will not be eligible for admission.

ADMISSION PROCESS

 (a) To get admission for 75 seats for Army children and 05 seats for the All-India Category, one needs to take the Online Law Entrance Test (LET) by AIL at some test centres.

(b) Candidates for both Army children and the All-India Category will do online counselling based on their rank in the Online Law Entrance Test (LET). One will get admission only if one is eligible on the counselling day.

(c) To get admission for 20 seats for the Punjab Residents Category, one needs to have good marks in 10+2. The Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar will make a merit list as per the Govt. of Punjab notice dated 14 Feb 2023. One will do online counselling based on this list. One needs to have a Punjab Domicile to be eligible in this category.
