One Website Replacing Years of Letters and Waiting

Before 2018, getting a copy of an old pension document, or raising a records-related grievance, usually meant writing a letter, then waiting, and often writing again. The Retired Officers Digital Records Archive, or RODRA, was built specifically to close that gap by putting a veteran officer’s entire documentation relationship with the Army onto a single website — www.rodra.gov.in.

RODRA was launched in August 2018 on the NIC cloud by the Officers’ Record Office, or ORO. Its purpose is direct: to create a digital interface between AG/ORO, the custodian of officers’ service records, and veteran officers or their Next of Kin. In practical terms, it is the official channel for handling documentation and pension-related grievances, and for staying updated on relevant policies, all from one place.

What You Can Actually Do Once Registered

Once registered, RODRA gives veteran officers and their NOK access to a defined set of facilities: updating your records and contributing to the digital data repository; generating a Last Pay Certificate cum data sheet in cases of pension review or changes to your PPO; registering and tracking documentation or pension-related grievances; generating and printing applications for your Indian Army Veteran Card; downloading your PPO and various forms or policy letters relating to changes in your records; and staying in communication with the Records office on issues relating to records, pension, or the Monthly Retiring Officers Seminar.

How to Register

Registration follows a straightforward sequence. Access the website, choose ‘New User Sign Up’, and fill in your Service Number, Date of Birth, Date of Commission, Date of Retirement, mobile number, and email address. Click the category you want to register under and submit. Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number and create a password. From there, you log in with your user ID, which is your Service Number, along with your password and captcha. A tutorial manual is available on the Help Desk of the RODRA homepage if you get stuck at any step.

Three Concrete Improvements Since RODRA Launched

The move to RODRA has produced three measurable benefits. First, dispatch of various types of Pension Payment Orders issued by PCDA (Pensions) to veterans has stopped entirely, saving manpower, stationery, and postal charges — PPOs are instead uploaded on the website by the Manpower Planning Directorate, and

veterans download them directly. Second, monitoring and management of veterans’ grievances has been streamlined, improving satisfaction levels across the board. Third, an updated data repository of veterans, with the latest address, contact numbers, and email addresses, is being populated for quick and reliable communication with veterans going forward.

Beyond Records: A Gateway to Other Portals Too

RODRA is not limited to its own features. Once logged in, it provides access to other relevant websites, including ECHS, DIAV, and the SBI Pension Seva Portal, along with policy letters, advisories with requisite forms organised subject-wise, an online grievance mechanism with status tracking, the status of 7th CPC revision and online submission of the required documents, and contact details of PCDA (Pension) Prayagraj, PCDA (Officers) Pune, AG/ORO, and MPRS (O). This makes it a genuinely useful single starting point rather than one of several websites you need to remember and separately log into.

Why Every Veteran Officer Should Be Registered

Even if you feel your paperwork is currently in order and you have no immediate grievance to raise, it is worth registering on RODRA proactively rather than waiting until you need something urgently. Pension records occasionally need correction years after retirement — a family member’s date of birth, a bank detail, or a name spelling — and having your RODRA account already active means you can raise and track these corrections immediately rather than starting from scratch at a stressful moment. It also means you will see any PPO or policy update relevant to you as soon as it is uploaded, rather than finding out about it much later through word of mouth from a fellow veteran.

A Word of Caution

A mistake some veterans make is registering on RODRA once and then never returning until something goes wrong. Since RODRA now handles PPO dispatch entirely digitally, with no physical copies sent by post, a veteran who does not check the website periodically may simply never see a document that has been uploaded and is waiting for them. Make it a habit to log in periodically, not just when you have a specific problem to raise.

Final Thoughts

RODRA has genuinely simplified what used to be a slow, letter-based relationship between veteran officers and the Records Office. If you have not registered yet, do so at www.rodra.gov.in with your service details close at hand, and use it as your first stop for anything related to your PPO, pension documentation, or a grievance you

need to raise and track.
