INTRODUCTION

Jeevan Pramaan is a service that helps pensioners prove that they are alive and get their pension. Pensioners are people who have retired from working for the Central Government, State Government, or any other Government organization. There are more than five crore pensioners who can use this service. The service started on November 10, 2014.

Every year, Defence pensioners have to submit a life certificate to the agencies that disburse their pension, such as banks or post offices. This is to ensure that the pension is not misused by someone dead or fraudulent. To obtain this life certificate, Defence pensioners have to either visit the agency or get the certificate from an authority.

Jeevan-Pramaan simplifies and speeds up this process. Defence pensioners can use their Aadhaar number and biometrics, such as fingerprint or eye scan, online to verify that they are alive. They do not have to travel anywhere or mail anything. They can do this from their home or any nearby centre that offers Jeevan Pramaan service.

Defence pensioners who have remarried or taken up another job after retirement cannot use Jeevan Pramaan. They have to follow the old method of getting the life certificate and submitting it to the agency that disburses their pension.

HOW IT WORKS

Jeevan Pramaan uses Aadhaar to check the identity and existence of the pensioner. Aadhaar is a 12-digit number that is given to every Indian citizen. It has the biometric and demographic details of the person. When a pensioner uses Jeevan Pramaan, their biometrics is matched with their Aadhaar data. If the match is successful, a digital life certificate is created and stored in a central place. The agency that pays the pension can see the certificate online and pay the pension without any delay or mistake. For more details visit the official Jeevan Pramaan website.
