If you have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12, and you want to serve in the Indian Navy as an officer — this article is for you.

The Indian Navy runs a special entry scheme called as 10+2 (B.Tech) Cadet Entry Scheme. Through this entry, Class 12 PCM students can directly join the Navy and become permanent commissioned officers. You do not have to wait till graduation. You do not have to give a separate written exam for it. Your JEE (Main) rank is what the Navy uses to shortlist you.

This entry is open to both boys and girls — unmarried candidates only.

Once selected, you will study a four-year B.Tech degree at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala, Kerala. The Navy pays for everything — your books, food, clothing, and training. When you complete the course, you get a B.Tech degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and you are commissioned as a permanent officer in the Technical Branches of the Indian Navy.

The current notification is for the January 2027 batch. Applications open on 29 May 2026 and the last date is 18 June 2026.

Everything written in this article is taken directly from the official Indian Navy advertisement available on joinindiannavy.gov.in.

1. What Is Indian Navy 10+2 B.Tech Cadet Entry Scheme ?

This is a programme where the Indian Navy takes Class 12 PCM students, trains them for four years at INA Ezhimala, gives them a B.Tech degree from JNU, and makes them permanent commissioned officers in the Navy’s Technical Branches.

Three important points to remember:

  • It is a Permanent Commission — not a short-term job. It is a full career.
  • The Navy selects you through your JEE (Main) rank — not through a separate Navy written exam.
  • All training expenses are paid by the Indian Navy — you pay nothing.

2. How Many Seats Are Available?

For the January 2027 batch, the Navy has announced 60 total vacancies:

BranchSeatsWho Can Apply
Mechanical Engineering30Boys and Girls
Electronics & Communication Engineering30Boys and Girls
Total60

For Girls: A maximum of 8 seats are reserved for girls — 4 seats in Mechanical Engineering and 4 seats in Electronics & Communication Engineering.

Special stream: Out of the 30 Mechanical Engineering cadets, 7 candidates will be moved to B.Tech in Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding at NCW, Kochi — based on their performance during training at INA. This decision is made by the Navy during training, not at the time of joining.

Note: These numbers are tentative. The Navy can change them based on service requirements.

4. How Does the Selection Work?

There are four steps:

Step 1 — Apply Online

Go to www.joinindiannavy.gov.in and fill the application form.

  • Application dates: 29 May 2026 to 18 June 2026
  • There is no application fee for this entry (as per current notification)
  • Once you submit the form, you cannot make any changes
  • Do not change your mobile number or email ID until the whole process is over

Step 2 — Shortlisting Through JEE (Main) CRL

The Navy will shortlist candidates for SSB interview based on their JEE (Main) 2026 CRL rank. The Navy sets its own cut-off. If your rank is above the cut-off, you will get an SSB call.

You will be informed by email and SMS if you are shortlisted.

Step 3 — SSB Interview

Shortlisted candidates go for a 5-day SSB interview. This is held at these four cities: Bengaluru, Bhopal, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam — starting from September 2026

The Navy decides which city you go to. You cannot ask for a change of city under any circumstances.

If you are going for SSB for the first time for this type of entry, the Navy will pay your AC 3-tier train fare.

No compensation is given if you get injured during SSB tests.

Step 4 — Medical Test

If you clear the SSB, you will go for a medical examination.

  • No relaxation in medical standards under any reason
  • You cannot change the medical hospital or centre
  • If you were already declared medically fit for NDA/INA Jan 2027, you do not need to repeat the medical
  • Medical rules are on the official website: www.joinindiannavy.gov.in

Step 5 — Final Merit List

The Navy makes a final merit list based on your SSB marks and medical fitness.

Your appointment is subject to:

  • Police verification
  • Character verification
  • Availability of seats

Getting your name on the merit list does not guarantee joining. The Navy makes the final decision.

5. What Happens at SSB — 5 Days Explained Simply

The SSB is a personality test. It checks whether you have the qualities to become an officer. The detailed SSB procedure is given on www.joinindiannavy.gov.in. The typical SSB process used across all officer entries is as follows:
