The Canteen Stores Department (CSD) of India stands as a testament to the nation’s commitment to its armed forces. Established in 1948 under the Ministry of Defence, CSD aims to provide quality consumer goods at subsidized rates to serving and retired military personnel, war widows, and certain civilian employees of the Ministry of Defence. Over the years, CSD has evolved into a robust retail network, ensuring that the welfare of the defence community remains a priority. CSD’s digital initiatives like the AFD Portal align with the government’s Digital India vision and complement welfare mechanisms such as SPARSH and ESM Corner, creating a seamless support network for defence personnel.

CSD operates through a decentralized network comprising 33 Area Depots and over 3,500 Unit Run Canteens (URCs) spread across the country. These URCs function as retail outlets, catering to the daily needs of the armed forces personnel. Several URCs have now integrated QR-based billing systems and digitised stock tracking, improving transparency and reducing pilferage. The department procures goods in bulk from manufacturers and sells them at concessional rates, ensuring affordability for its beneficiaries.

  1. Toiletries: Personal care items like soaps, shampoos, and dental care products.
  2. Household Requisites: Kitchenware, cleaning agents, and other household essentials.
  3. General Use Items: Stationery, toys, and other miscellaneous products.
  4. Watches & Stationery: Branded watches and office supplies.
  5. Liquor: A selection of alcoholic beverages.
  6. Food & Medicinal Items: Packaged food items and over-the-counter medicines.
  7. AFD (Against Firm Demand) Items: High-value items like cars, motorcycles, and electronic appliances.

These categories ensure that the armed forces community has access to a wide range of products, catering to their diverse needs.

👉🚗 CSD Four-Wheeler Entitlements – New Guidelines

In line with the government’s Digital India initiative, CSD launched the AFD (Against Firm Demand) Portal. This online platform enables eligible personnel to purchase high-value items like cars, motorcycles, and electronics directly from the comfort of their homes. The portal streamlines the procurement process, offering transparency and convenience to users.

  • User-Friendly Interface: Designed for easy navigation, ensuring a seamless shopping experience.
  • Comprehensive Product Listings: Detailed information on various products, including specifications and pricing.
  • Secure Payment Gateway: Multiple payment options, including net banking, debit/credit cards, and UPI.
  • Order Tracking: Real-time updates on order status, ensuring transparency.
  • Customer Support: Dedicated helpline and email support for assistance.

The AFD Portal has significantly reduced the manual intervention in the procurement process, making it more efficient and user-friendly.

To avail of CSD’s services, personnel must meet specific eligibility criteria. Serving and retired armed forces personnel, war widows, and civilian defence employees are typically eligible. 3. Hi, Highest regards to the person controlling this channel. My point is why being Retd person, the ceiling limit is placed on purchase of four wheelers. Any one can purchase to any type of vehicle costwise who can afford to do it. Irony is it gives a discriminatory feeling even after being away from service.
