INTRODUCTION
ACMS stands for Army College of Medical Sciences, a medical college established by the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) in 2008. The college aims to provide quality medical education to the children of eligible serving and Retired army personnel, War Widows, and widows of army personnel. The college is affiliated with Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi, and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). ACMS is ranked among the top medical colleges in north India by India Today.
VISION
The college has many goals. First, the college wants to make a place where everyone loves to learn. This means they want to share knowledge, do research, and make students and teachers curious. Second, the college wants to teach their students and teachers to care for patients and their families with kindness and understanding. Third, the college wants to help their students and teachers become good people who can understand others’ feelings. Finally, the college trains its medical students for a good and honourable job. They give them special training for the needs of the military and inspire them to serve their country. They also teach them practical skills and how to care for others.
CAMPUS AND FACILITIES
ACMS is located in Delhi Cantonment, next to the ring road and near the Delhi Cantt Metro Station. The college campus covers an area of 25.559 acres and has a green and eco-friendly environment. The campus has 23 classrooms, 7 seminar rooms, 18 labs, 4 lecture halls, and a library with over 10,000 books and journals. The campus also has a computer centre, two canteens, and eight playgrounds for recreational activities. The college has a hostel facility for boys and girls, with a capacity of 300 students each. The hostel has a mess, a gym, a common room, and a laundry service. The college also has a 600-bed Base Hospital, which serves as the teaching hospital for the students.
COURSES AND CURRICULUM
ACMS offers a four-and-a-half-year MBBS course, followed by a one-year compulsory rotating internship. The course is divided into nine semesters, with three phases: Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical, and Clinical. The college follows the curriculum prescribed by the NMC and the Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University. The college has an annual intake of 100 students, out of which 85% are reserved for the wards of army personnel and 15% are for the general category. The admission process is based on the merit of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
