Our Nation recently witnessed Operation Sindoor, a display of unparalleled bravery and precision that once again highlighted the dedication and skill of our armed forces. The country cheered, social media erupted with praise, and once again, the soldier stood tall in the nation’s imagination. But beyond the spotlight of operations and military parades lies a disturbing question—where do we really stand when it comes to the dignity and safety of our soldiers within their own homeland?
Over the past two years, there has been a string of violent assaults against Army personnel—not in conflict zones, not on borders, but on the streets, toll plazas, police stations, and even airports of India. These incidents cut deep into the morale of serving soldiers and veterans alike. Here is a detailed look at nine shocking cases of assaults on Army men across India.
1. Meerut Toll Plaza Assault (August 2025)
On 17 August 2025, Army jawan Kapil Singh, a native of Gotka village, was returning from leave and heading towards Delhi Airport when an unfortunate incident unfolded at the Bhuni Toll Plaza on the Meerut–Karnal highway. his car got stuck in a long queue. He requested toll staff to clear traffic faster, but instead of cooperation, he faced aggression. The argument turned violent as multiple toll employees pinned him to a pole, beat him with rods, fists, and even bricks. The horrifying act, caught on CCTV, quickly went viral.
Public outrage was immediate—locals stormed the toll plaza, damaging property in protest. Police arrested six employees and are tracing others. The NHAI imposed a ₹20 lakh fine on toll operator M/s Dharam Singh and initiated debarment from all future contracts.
This case was a brutal reminder that even men in uniform, representing the Army, can face humiliation and violence in public. The assault was not just against one soldier—it was against the dignity of the entire force.
2. Srinagar Airport Assault by Army Officer (July 2025)
The recent incident at Srinagar Airport has been making headlines after a scuffle reportedly broke out between an Army officer and SpiceJet ground staff. While the media has been quick to portray the officer as the aggressor, the actual face and full details of the assault are still unclear.
Eyewitnesses suggest that it all began when the SpiceJet staff mocked and misbehaved with the officer during a baggage clearance issue. Instead of resolving the matter professionally, employees allegedly provoked him further, creating a scene that delayed operations. The officer, already under the stress of official travel, was put in a humiliating position in front of passengers.
As the situation escalated, arguments turned physical, and video clips started circulating without the full context of what led to the altercation. What is often being missed in mainstream reporting is that the SpiceJet team was the first to instigate and disrespect a serving soldier.
To make matters worse, the delay and disruption reportedly caused the flight to depart without the officer, raising serious concerns about the airline’s handling of uniformed personnel.
For soldiers who dedicate their life to the service of the nation, mockery and humiliation in a public space is unacceptable. While the inquiry will determine the official responsibility, many in the veteran community believe the narrative must also consider the provocation that pushed the officer into defending his dignity.

3. Havildar Vikram Singh Beaten to Death (June 2025)
In Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, the service town known for producing soldiers, tragedy struck in June 2025. Havildar Vikram Singh, a decorated soldier of 18 Raj Rifles, was on leave when he was allegedly kidnapped and beaten to death by locals. Witnesses reported he was forced into a vehicle, thrashed mercilessly, and dumped in a semi-conscious state. He succumbed to injuries before reaching hospital.
His family, along with fellow villagers, refused to accept the body after post-mortem, demanding strict action. They claimed that despite clear evidence, police were slow to respond. Only after massive protests did authorities detain two suspects.
For a soldier who had served on the nation’s frontline, dying helplessly at the hands of locals in his own village is beyond tragic. His death raised painful questions—what value do we attach to the lives of those who risk theirs daily for us?
4. Assam Rifles Officer Assault in Faridabad (June 2025)
An Assam Rifles Assistant Commandant was assaulted in Faridabad outside a liquor shop, allegedly after being accused of making a “Nepali” remark—an ethnic slur. The officer, while off duty, was set upon by drunk assailants who used rods, bricks, and stones, leaving him with head injuries.
Police arrested two suspects, while five remain absconding. The officer was hospitalized but survived.
The case highlights not only the vulnerability of uniformed men in civilian life but also how regional and ethnic prejudices can be weaponized into violent attacks.
5. Lucknow Road-Rage Assault on Army Officer (June 2025)
On June 22, 2025, a shocking incident at the Telibagh intersection in Lucknow once again laid bare the vulnerability of soldiers within their own homeland. Lt Col Anand Prakash Suman, serving with the NCC Directorate in Patna, was traveling with his family when a routine drive spiraled into a violent road-rage assault.
According to reports, a UP Police sub-inspector, identified as Vinay Kumar Saroj, objected to the Colonel’s vehicle allegedly being on the wrong side of the road. Instead of handling the matter with due process, the officer resorted to sheer aggression. He slapped the Colonel through the car window in full public view, then deliberately drove his vehicle over the Colonel’s left foot before fleeing the spot.
The shocking assault was witnessed not just by Lt Col Suman’s family, who sat horrified inside the car, but also by bystanders.
For a soldier who has worn the uniform and dedicated his life to service, to be humiliated and assaulted in such a brazen manner by someone from another uniformed force raises serious questions of discipline, accountability, and respect. The incident has since ignited calls for strict action against the erring policeman, as citizens and veterans alike demand justice for Lt Col Suman.
6. Patiala Colonel & Son Assault (March 2025)
In March 2025, Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath, a serving officer, and his son were brutally assaulted near a dhaba in Patiala, Punjab, over a parking dispute. Shockingly, the attackers were not ordinary miscreants but Punjab Police personnel, who used lathis, rods, and even sharp weapons during the assault outside a roadside eatery near Government Rajindra Hospital.
Video footage of the assault went viral, showing uniformed police thrashing the officer and his son. Public outrage forced the state government to suspend 12 policemen and order a CBI probe.
For Soldiers who dedicate their life to the service, being beaten by local law enforcers—the very system meant to protect them—was a gross violation of trust.
7. Odisha Police Station Outrage – Army Officer & Fiancée (Sept 2024)
One of the most shocking cases unfolded in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in September 2024. An Army captain from the Sikh Regiment went to a police station with his fiancée to file a complaint. Instead of assistance, they faced horror.
The captain alleged that the station in-charge molested and sexually harassed his fiancée inside custody, while he was restrained and beaten. He later revealed, “I could hear her screams for 30 minutes.” Video footage showed the officer and his partner being manhandled by multiple men.
This incident triggered outrage nationwide, raising serious concerns about police accountability and safety of women connected to servicemen. The violation was not just physical—it was psychological warfare against the dignity of a soldier.
8. Indore Firing Range Assault (Sept 2024)
In Indore, a young Army officer and his friends were attacked by 7–8 unidentified men near a firing range. Shockingly, one of the officer’s female companions was allegedly sexually assaulted during the attack.
The assailants fled, but police arrested two soon after, with four others absconding. The case was viewed as not just an attack on a soldier but a criminal targeting of young officers in training spaces.
This incident highlighted the lack of security even in military-adjacent areas, where officers should feel the safest.
9. NCC Camp Attack, Kerala (Dec 2024)
In December 2024, during an NCC camp in Kochi, Kerala, an Army officer supervising the cadets was assaulted by a mob after a suspected food poisoning incident among cadets. Videos showed the officer being slapped and kicked in uniform.
Despite clear video evidence, no arrests were made for over a week, triggering anger among serving and retired personnel nationwide.
This incident sent a dangerous message: if officers in uniform can be humiliated in public without consequences, discipline and respect erode rapidly.
10. Kupwara Police Station Clash (May 2024)
In Kupwara, J&K, tensions erupted when Army personnel stormed a police station after one of their colleagues was detained. The clash turned violent, with four police officers injured.
An FIR was filed against unidentified Army men, leading to a rare case where the Army was accused of assaulting civil police. The matter was later handled through military-police coordination.
This incident showed how fragile Army–Police relations can become in sensitive areas like Kashmir, where both play crucial roles in security.
